The name
Who is Bhuwas?
Bhuwas is me, Bhuwanesh Sisodia: a full-stack, mobile and AI engineer in Mumbai, India. It's my short name, and the name of this site.
Bhuwas is short for Bhuwanesh Sisodia
Bhuwas takes the first five letters of Bhuwanesh and the S of Sisodia. It’s quicker to say and easy to remember.
Why I chose it
- It comes from my real name. I wanted something short that still pointed back to me, not a made-up brand.
- Numerology backs it. In Chaldean numerology, BHUWAS adds up to 23 and reduces to 5. Twenty-three is read as the “Royal Star of the Lion”, a number of protection, and 5 belongs to Mercury, Budh in the Vedic tradition: communication, intelligence and business. For work that is building products and talking with clients, that felt right.
What bhuwas means in Sanskrit
Bhuwas is also a real Sanskrit word. भुवस् (bhuvas, often written bhuvaḥ or bhuvar) means the air, the atmosphere: the space between the earth and the heavens. It is the second of the three vyāhṛtis, the sacred words bhūr bhuvaḥ svaḥ (earth, atmosphere, heaven) recited at the start of the Gayatri mantra. In the Puranas, bhuvar-loka is “the world of the air”.
It shares a root with my own name. Both come from the Sanskrit bhū, “to be, to become”. Bhuvanesh is bhuvana (world) and īśa (lord): “lord of the worlds”, a name of Shiva. So Bhuwas started as a short form, and it turned out to carry a meaning I’m glad to have.

Bhuwas, Bhuvas or Bhuvah?
They are the same word. Sanskrit and Hindi use one letter, व, for both the v and w sounds, so it is spelled both ways in English. I write Bhuwas, the same way I write Bhuwanesh.
